Bristol’s Aardman have created the worlds largest stop-motion animation. It’s absolutely awesome and they shot it on a mobile phone too!

Oh my goodness I want one!

This is a brilliant film about the recent Graffiti event in Bristol where both local and national artists came together to completely transform Nelson Street which was formerly known for it’s run down dingy atmosphere. I was fortunate attend the block party at the opening and it was really great to see, there was a fantastic vibe and so much talent.

It’s amazing how the city has embraced street art; where it was once illegal and considered a sign of neglect,  it’s now being commissioned by the city council to beautify huge public spaces.

I’m fascinated by Nowhereisland – in 2004 artist Alex Hartley discovered an island in the arctic which hand been revealed by a melting glacier. It’s now registered and appears on arctic maps. This september he’s returning with an expert team to collect a portion of the island and sale with it into international waters 200 nautical miles from he nearest country boundary and will then be able to declare it a new nation.

You can sign up as a citizen online now. Nowhereisland will become a political statement as all citizens will be able to vote about the bill of rights/constitution of this new micro-nation. It poses many questions –  how can we create a better society? If we started over would we do things the same way?

I’m totally loving the streaming mixtapes by Gigawatt, divided into editions of four categories organized by tempo into: Adagio, Moderato, Vivace and Presto. His taste is exceptional and eclectic with a consistency across the genres which will surprise you. Each Mix tape is delightfully illuminated by an illustration of one of the artists from the mix.

I love the way Google changes their logo based on the day of the year – most “Google Doodles” as they’re known are commemorative of an anniversary e.g.50th Anniversary of JFK’s Inaugural. I stumbled across the complete archive when hitting the “I’m Feeling Lucky” button without entering a search term.

A beautiful project bringing together Fifty Illustrators from fifty states of America, each illustrating their state’s motto. Gorgeous typography and I love the unity created through the limited colour palette.
