Branding and Identity
"If this business were split up, I would give you the land and bricks and mortar, and I would take the brands and trademarks, and I would fare better than you."
John Stuart, former CEO of Quaker Oats
There are a number of important aspects of building a strong brand:
Be Unique
It’s important to show why potential customers should choose you over your competitors. To do this you have to know what makes you unique – it could be your expertise, quality, location, product, or a combination of many other factors.
Be Honest
Nothing disappoints customers more than a company which makes great claims and fails to deliver.
Be Consistent
To build a trust with your customers it’s important to be consistent, making sure that at every point at which they come into contact with your company they get the same messages. This could be through the quality of paper used for your letterheads, the tone of the person answering the phone... even the state of your customer toilet!
Keep it Simple
Over complicating things can leave people ambiguous and confused, likely to forget. By distilling the things that make your company unique; its personally, and product or service down to a single core message it’s easy for your customers to understand who you are and to remember you.
